Q: What is Forward Tutoring?
Forward Tutoring is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides quality, online tutoring to students anywhere-- absolutely free. We allow students to receive free tutoring by volunteering in their community. Our platform creates an ecosystem for students, tutors, and nonprofits to interact: tutors tutor students who volunteer at events posted by nonprofits. In turn, we reward tutors for their efforts with the help of Corporate Partners and Sponsors.
Q: Is Forward Tutoring really free?
Yes. Forward Tutoring stands to make education accessible to anyone, anytime, anywhere-- absolutely free. We don’t charge a dime to students, tutors, or nonprofits.
Q: Who can use Forward Tutoring?
Forward Tutoring currently offers three types of accounts:
Student: Any student-- whether in middle school, high school, or college-- can use the Forward Tutoring website. If you have a tutoring need, we have your solution. Students also have access to our Volunteer Opportunity Database, which shows local events by day and by relevance to the student. Students indicate the service areas they are most passionate about and we feed them events that align to their wants.
Tutor: Tutors provide the online tutoring to students; in turn, tutors can review or export their service hour history (useful for college applications, fulfilling school requirements, and to see the impact of your help) and become eligible for scholarships, internships, and other Forward Tutoring-exclusive awards and prizes. Tutors simply create a regular Student account and then follow instructions to Become A Tutor.
Nonprofit: Organizations can use Forward Tutoring to post volunteer opportunities to a diverse and engaged volunteer pool. Nonprofits are then able to see which students sign up for events to ensure their events are successful!
Q: I’m an educator-- what options do I have?
As an educator (teacher, school administrator, counselor, etc.), we highly recommend you take the time to promote Forward Tutoring to your students and staff. If you would like more information, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org, let us know what you would like to know more about, and we will get back to you as soon as possible. If you would like for Forward Tutoring to make a presentation to your students, staff, counselors, or parents, please indicate so and we will see what we can do. We are confident Forward Tutoring will be a powerful tool in your school’s arsenal to deliver top-notch education.
Q: I’m a parent-- what options do I have?
Parents are critical to the academic success of students. We ask that you encourage your child or children to continue using Forward Tutoring. As time goes on, more and more volunteer events will be added to the Volunteer Opportunity calendar; soon you will see your student eager to lend a hand in the community, and he or she will accumulate credits to receive the tutoring he or she wants to take his or her academic success to the next level.
Q: How do I get tutoring?
As a student, you receive credits applicable towards tutoring by volunteering in the community. Every hour of community service translates into credits! You will be tutored on a two way multi-function whiteboard. So your tutor can talk, chat, draw and paste any information that will help you learn!
Q: Who’s tutoring me?
Tutors are high-school or college students, verified by their academic emails, who provide quality, one-on-one tutoring. Tutors must pass a Forward Tutoring original examination to demonstrate academic mastery and must pass a mock session to demonstrate exceptional communication skills; by verifying academic and communication levels we are able to provide quality tutoring to students.
Tutors are held to the highest standards in terms of tutoring etiquette. If you, for whatever reason, have a tutoring that does not exceed your expectations, please email email@example.com with details and we will respond accordingly. We thank you for your input.
Q: What can I get help with?
At the moment, students can be tutored in the following subjects:
Math: Geometry, Algebra I, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus, Calculus I, Calculus II
Science: Chemistry, Biology
Q: How do I receive credits through a nonprofit not registered with Forward Tutoring?
Unfortunately our system does not support unregistered nonprofits granting credits. However, if you have recently complete a volunteer event and would like to receive credit, please email the organization sponsor and encourage him or her to register with Forward Tutoring. We have a host of options that will make recruiting volunteers and managing events easier for the organization! If you would like to receive credit for the information, please email firstname.lastname@example.org with the following information:
Email subject: Requesting Event Credit
Your Name (First and Last):
Forward Tutoring Username:
Total Hours served:
Organization Contact Name:
Organization Contact Email:
Organization Contact Phone Number:
We will verify the submitted information and we will give you the appropriate credits.
Please encourage the organization to register with Forward Tutoring to ensure you always receive credit for your community service.
Q: How do I become a tutor?
Becoming a tutor is very rewarding! If you’re talented in a subject (or several), you will be able to record your service hours and become eligible for scholarships, internships, and exclusive prizes and awards. To qualify, create a student account and click "Become A Tutor."
Q: I’m involved with a nonprofit-- what options do I have?
Nonprofits are critical to the success of the Forward Tutoring platform. You guys provide the events; we provide the volunteers. If you’re looking to post volunteer opportunities, create a Nonprofit Account today and get started. Your event will be added to our Volunteer Opportunity Database where students can register for your event. At the end of the day, you will have the volunteers you need to run a successful (and fun) volunteer event. Once the event passes, you approve a student’s hours and he or she receives the credits needed to receive tutoring!
Q: How can I get involved with Forward Tutoring?

If you can say yes to any of these questions, feel free to send an email to email@example.com, explain your strengths and how you wish to contribute to the team, and we will see how we can get you involved right away!

Q: What are your future plans?
Forward Tutoring is always looking to improve. We strive to make education, tutoring, and volunteering accessible with the latest technological trends. As a result, we are devoted to improving our platform regularly. At the moment we have several upcoming projects to improve the site, such as creating School Portal and integrating Social Media-- stay tuned!
Q: How long do I wait for a tutor?
The wait for a tutor depends on several factors: demand for tutors, number of available tutors in the particular subject, and number of questions asked before yours. While you wait, however, we offer a host of tools you can use to practice skills. Feel free to take a stab at our practice sets or check out our videos!
Q: My volunteer hours have yet to be approved. What can I do?
The volunteer-hour approval system is reliant on the Organization. Please contact the Organization directly and encourage the representative to approve the hours. If you are unable to reach an organization, please contact us directly through the Contact Us page.
Q: Do I need to download any software?
No-- Forward Tutoring is entirely accessible through the internet.
Q: How does the Forward Tutoring platform work?
Forward Tutoring has developed its own proprietary ecosystem that enables student, tutors, and nonprofits to work cooperatively. The whiteboard system used for tutoring sessions is licensed from Twiddla.
If you have any technological questions, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we will respond as soon as we resolve the issue. If the issue is pressing, please call 1-(888)-670-2276 to speak to a support team member.
